When community members pooled their resources to form the Berlin Hospital Association in 1911, little did they know how much their hometown hospital would impact the local quality of life the next 100 years and beyond.
With planning underway for its 2nd year, the Green Lake Area Half Marathon and 5K now has a sponsor to lead the way, thanks to Community Health Network. This exciting event is scheduled for Sunday, September 4th, 2011 of Labor Day Weekend. The Half Marathon (13.1 miles) will start at 8:00am, followed by a 5K Run/Walk at 8:15am. The starting line will be in Green Lake near Playground Park and the Chamber Office at 550 Mill Street.
Over 40 Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants were part of an educational day held at Community Health Network. The instructor, former Berlin High School graduate Connie (Trampf) Kittleson, shared her expertise on clinical decision making for patients who have multiple medical problems.
On Saturday May 21st, Community Health Network will once again be opening its Berlin Memorial Hospital campus for people of all ages to participate in the Healthy Living Fair & “Helping Hands for Cancer” 5K Run/Walk.
March is National Athletic Training Month, and Community Health Network is proud to recognize their three on-staff Athletic Trainers who provide services to the local schools. Melissa Johnston, ATC/LAT, CEAS, CFCE, ACI, Chad Spaulding, ATC/LAT, and Anneliese Benesh, ATC/LAT, are all very visible at the local school football fields and gymnasiums, always available pre-game to wrap ankles and wrists, and on their toes during the game to provide assistance if an athlete is injured.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) awarded grants across the United States to help communities encourage heart disease awareness and foster action, especially among women of color, women with low incomes, and women who live in rural areas.
In celebration of their Centennial, Community Health Network sponsored a Coloring Contest, which was held in conjunction with area schools’ 100th day of school celebrations. All Berlin students in kindergarten through grade four were asked to participate. Winners received a $10 gift card, courtesy of CHN Community Relations.
In the spirit of community involvement and healthy competition, Community Health Network and the Berlin Area School District have begun a 12-week weight loss challenge pitting members of each organization against one another.
